Beer, Chips and Cricket

This is a site about drinking beer, eating chips and thinking cricket. I am not a former player, a television commentaror or a journalist; my qualification to being worthy of hearing is that I drink a lot of beer, eat a lot of chips and think a lot about cricket. The thoughts need not be politically correct and often include colourful language but there will be no deliberate bias towards any player, community or state. I don't care about popular opinion or perceptions and I speak it as I see it.

Yuveraj just got him an opener's slot?

Talk about grabbing chances ... Coming into the India vs. India-A match, Akash Chopra surely had the edge over the other contenders, whether it be Yuveraj or Gambhir. However, as the match is in its last day, Yuveraj seems to have had the last laugh. While Chopra has not shone in the chance he got, Yuveraj is currently batting on 101 with partner Sehwag on 139. Sehwag was going to open whether he got that century or not but Yuveraj just seems to have inserted his name into the list at the No. 2 slot. Amazing ... talk about grabbing his opportunity.

Ok, I remember .... I wrote in a previous post that I think the idea of opening with Yuveraj stinks ... I still haven't changed my opinion. Yuveraj is a very gifted player but with too many weaknesses ... the way I see it is - If u think Ganguly can open in tests, then I guess so can Yuveraj.

But form cannot be denied; whatever anyone might think, the performer has to get the nod. On that score, 95% chances that Yuveraj will walk out with Sehwag unless of course they decide to play him at 6 and make Chopra open. A lot will depend on whether Tendulkar is fit or not by the time of the first test. Even Kaif has scored a ton in this match but he is (if at all) a contender for the middle order. If Tendulkar is fit, only one of Yuveraj and Chopra can play and it will probably be Yuveraj as opener. If Tendulkar is not fit, still Yuveraj might open and Kaif bat at 6. Well, Chopra has no one to blame but him ... he got one chance ... Yuvi got one chane ... Yuvi took his.

Good luck to him.

Cheers

agreed that yuvraj has some weaknesses but he cannot be compared to ganguly.. ganguly is vulnerable against pace exp. the short pitched stuff but playes teh spinners better than most in the world, yuvraj on th e other hand is excellent against pace esp. teh shor pitched stuff but very vulnerable against spin..but i agree that the idea of replacing Akash Chopra with Yuvraj stinks..

Love your Blog discovered it a few days ago..keep it going

I wouldnt be surprised if team decide to open with Parthiv instead of Yuvi or Chopra. Yuvi and Kaif(or SRT) will then be accommodated in the middle. Do i like this idea? Nope. If Yuvi gotta play tests regularly he should open. Its risky to open with two stroke makers but if they succeed our success rate will increase incredibly.
