Beer, Chips and Cricket

This is a site about drinking beer, eating chips and thinking cricket. I am not a former player, a television commentaror or a journalist; my qualification to being worthy of hearing is that I drink a lot of beer, eat a lot of chips and think a lot about cricket. The thoughts need not be politically correct and often include colourful language but there will be no deliberate bias towards any player, community or state. I don't care about popular opinion or perceptions and I speak it as I see it.

A long hiatus

Hi guys
I am sure a lot of people must have stopped frequenting this blog simply coz there was no activity on it for long. For that, I apologize!

A variety of reasons for the break ... I got promoted, I got lazy, blah blah blah. Yeah, my employers gave me a promotion and the added responsibility took my mind away from a lot of things, including cricket. Now I have the hang of things as far as the new work goes and I am getting more comfortable every day ... so I can look for avenues to squeeze in an odd post or two. No promises but hey, I managed this post, didn't I? And someone tell me - if they increase the responsibility but keep the salary same as before, is it called promotion? Anyways, seriously I ain't complaining!

I missed the entire WI series and by all accounts, a history defining one ... winning a series abroad after so many years and so on and so forth. Personally, I would call the tour a disappointment - We should have won by at least a margin of 3-0 coz there was victory staring at us in three matches ... and in two, we just ignored it in typical Indian style. As for the ODIs, the less said the better!

A lot of pluses of course, as there are everytime - Rahul Dravid showing that being captain doesn't make him a non-playing member of the side like somme of the previous incumbents. Munaf Patel looking better everytime I see him ... Sreesanth is the one that makes more noise but Munaf is looking the more finished product of the two. Of course, here I am talking of the tests and in the ODIs, Munaf hasn't really shone. Still time to correct that.

One of the funniest cartoons I saw in recent times - I didn't see it on the internet else I would have posted the link ... Ganguly head-butting Dalmiya - Zidane style. It was hilarious.

Anyways, let me not overdo it in this post. It might raise expectations ... ;-)

Just a parting thought on the SRT - Manjrekar spat. I would be the first one to talk about SRT being a shadow of the great player he once was ... but I don't ever buy that story of his picking weak opponents and faking injuries to get out of facing the strong guys. Call it instinct or whatever, I don't quite agree to that line of reasoning.

Chalo cheers
